TRIX Exclusiv
2001 New Items
T12219 Diesel Locomotive
Prototype: North German Railroad Company NOHAB diesel locomotive, C-C design, former DSB type MY.
Use: Passenger and freight trains.

Model: Era V, ready for installation of the T66830 Selectrix decoder, 4 axles powered, 2 traction tires. Length over buffers 118 mm / 4-5/8". This model is being produced in a one-time series only in 2001 for the "Exclusiv" program.
T15136 "Oil Refueling" Freight Car Set
Prototype: Heavy oil cars and special cars for refueling oil-fired German Federal Railroad steam locomotives.

Model: Era III, cars come with close coupler mechanism. Total set length 205 mm / 8-1/16". This model is being produced in a one-time series only in 2001 for the "Exclusiv" program. The suitable locomotive model can be found in the Trix New Items brochure for 2001: the class 44 with oil for fuel, it has all of the prototypical changes of the oil-fired version: item no. T12215.

Oil-fired locomotives had the advantage of not needing coal for fuel and thereby facilitating the work of the fireman somewhat. Water could always be taken on at the station platform. To replenish the coal supply on long routes however, the locomotive had to go to the maintenance facility and could not stay with the train. In Bebra the German Federal Railroad people had the idea of coupling several tank cars to a boxcar that was converted to a traveling gas station. The fuel supplies thus came to the locomotive, which could remain coupled to the train. Even in the 1950s and 1960s shortening travel times was a topic of concern.

T15137 Tank Car Set
Prototype: 2 privately owned cars with brakeman’s cabs, used on the German Federal Railroad. Built as standard design tank cars for the German State Railroad Company.

Model: Era III, cars come with close coupler mechanism. Total set length 159 mm / 6-1/4". This model is being produced in a one-time series only in 2001 for the "Exclusiv" program.

A large part of the freight cars in Eras 1 and 2 were built with brakeman’s cabs. Many of these cars were acquired by the newly established DB. Many were still on the roster well into Era III with brakeman’s cabs, even when the later were increasingly unoccupied, since the trains were braked with continuous brake lines. Cars with brakeman’s cabs are an indispensable detail for operators of Era 3 equipment.

T15141 Tank Car Set

Prototype: 3 privately owned cars, used on the German State Railroad Company.

Model: Era II, all of the cars in this set come with black wheel spokes, and close coupler mechanisms. Total set length 171 mm / 6-3/4".  This model is being produced in a one-time series only in 2001 for the "Exclusiv" program.

T22730 Electric Locomotive
Prototype: German State Railroad Company class E 04, 2-C-2 design. Built starting in 1932.

Use: Express and regular passenger trains.

Model: Era II, 5 pole motor, NEM 8-pole digital connection, NEM coupler pockets. Length over buffers 174  mm / 6-7/8". This model is being produced in a one-time series only in 2001 for the "Exclusiv" program.

Starting in 1932 AEG delivered 10 class E 04 locomotives to the German State Railroad Company. Although the class E 04 was designed for 110 km/h or 69 mph, in 1933 E 04 09 reached 151.5 km/h or 95 mph with a 309 metric ton load during high speed tests. After that the maximum permissible speed for two of this class was increased to 130 km/h or 81 mph. A subsequent order for another 11 locomotives was also designed for 130 km/h or 81 mph. The DB retired the last units of this class in 1981, and the DR retired their units in 1976. One museum locomotive remained preserved by both the DB and the DR.
T23957 Deep Well Flat Car
Prototype: German Federal Railroad type Sks(s)-z 707 deep well flat car. Built starting in 1973.

Use: Transport of semi truck trailers, flatbeds with tarp covers and containers in combined load traffic.

Model: Era IV, car comes with diecast metal frame, NEM coupler pockets and close coupler mechanism. Many separately applied details. Loaded with two removable flat beds with tarp covers for trucks. Length over buffers 189 mm / 7-7/16". This model is being produced in a one-time series only in 2001 for the "Exclusiv" program.

Starting in 1973 the German Federal Railroad purchased a prototype and then a series of 100 standard design deep well flat cars. This car type was bought by almost all of the European railroads, and the DB acquired another 599 from 1979 to 1982. Semi truck trailers, flatbeds with tarp covers and containers can be loaded on this car. These cars are called “pocket” cars in Germany due to the pocket-like opening in their frames for the wheels of truck trailers. Sometimes they are nicknamed the kangaroo cars.
T23958 Flat Car Set for Containers
Prototype: 2 German Federal Railroad type Bt 10 flat cars for containers.

Model: Era III, cars come with separately applied data boards, NEM coupler pockets and close coupler mechanism. Cars come with different car numbers. Each car loaded with 3 removable coal containers, each container with a different serial number.  Total set length 228 mm / 9". This model is being produced in a one-time series only in 2001 for the "Exclusiv" program. This car set has car and container numbers different from those in the Märklin “Exclusiv” model presented in 2000.

“Von Haus zu Haus” (“From house to house”) was the slogan in Era III. A system of small containers was developed to satisfy the demand for transportation from smaller shippers. At the destination station these containers could be loaded onto special trailers belonging to the railroad, without the need for additional technical equipment, and delivered directly to the customer. All sorts of container shapes were developed over time. One of the most widely used containers was the so-called coal buckets. Coal was delivered directly to the end user with them. This rounds out the Trix theme for 2001 of “Coal and Energy”.
